5 Step Plan to get over someone!

Out of popular demand (okay, one person's demand) I have come to the conclusion that some things in life require some sort of step-by-step procedure. In this case, it is getting over a crush that you don't want to have.
During the course of highly stressful counselling sessions, I formulated this plan to get that person out of your head when you can't get them out of your life (or move to another planet). This is for the cases of unrequited crushes/crushes you don't want to work out/crushes you CAN'T see working out/or just plain getting over someone when time doesn't do its trick

1. Decide. It's now or never. Do you WANT to get over this person? Sometimes, some people purely enjoy the rush of a crush and don't actually want to let go. In such a case, you need to give yourself ONE TIGHT SLAP and tell yourself to SNAP OUT OF IT.

2. Make a list (IN YOUR HEAD ONLY) of all the reasons why this person will be so mismatched in your life. He'll/She'll be the yellow in your orange, the whatever jaal colour you hate with whatever sublime colour you will. He/She is NOT the missing jigsaw piece. Maybe it's the fact that you're so inseparable. Get a dog. Maybe it's their sense of humour that you love. So watch Vadivelu videos on youtube.

3.Don't call or message. Really. Out of sight slowly becomes out of mind.

4. Immerse yourself in movies, music, food, work, friends and YOURSELF! Movies work best (particularly Bollywood early 2000's trash/comedies/Pink Panther). Music is a close second. (DO NOT listen to any kind of love song. You will always twist the words around to fit your situation. Rammstein/Dapaan Koothu will do.) Food is not usually advisable but what else do you do when you go out? Especially in Madras!
Yourself-very important. Treat yourself to a hot bath, a body scrub and some Vaseline. Run like nobody's business...RUN from your crush! SLEEEEP. Maybe when you wake up, it'll be a bad dream.

5. Tell your friends not to talk about it. Seriously. The name is prohibited. Enough. Over. Talk about how hot Hrithik is in 'Jodhaa-Akbar' (I cannot think of any female equivalent for this. Sorry, guys)

6. Get busy with other people.
This is not as indecent as it sounds. It just means you have to start realising that other people exist. Like your FRIENDS, hello? Hang out with them. Let them make you laugh. Spend time with your parents. Talk to new people. SIGHT different people. Watch TV and continue the same.

So there it is, mes amis? Easy as pie (NOT). Strict adherence to the regime will 95% lead in desired results.
The rest 5%? Maybe it's true love. Go make a movie out of it.

Memorieeeeeeeeeees (to be read with Barbra Streisand's quavering soprano in mind)

Ohhh wooohhh hoooooohhhh it is my last weekend of being empty-headed till I get to work on Monday and begin a two-month internship...So adieu to college for a while (don't worry, I spared you the senti-ness by sniffing melodramatically at random desks and blackboards and all the profs in my department).
I want to say a word I hate but which accurately sums up my state of mind:
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE.
College is almost over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This cannot beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, oh no, no, no.
So much has happened, so much has been learned.
Six semesters, 16 major subjects, five actual crushes, tons of salwar-kameezes, one id card, three five-subject notebooks, a hundred million games of Hangman, ten million lists of hot guys, top TV series and others (me and Butterfly, that was), one best friend, one bestest friend and eight adorable close ones, a zillion messages back and forth, a billion IMing sessions, four major fights and possibly one final goodbye, a hundred veg rolls and 200 cup o noodles, inconsolable tears which dried, hysterical laughter that caused tears, and not to forgot atleast 500, 000 pages in XEROX ..... the list cannot even begin to end.
Three years.
Whaaaaaaat mannnn.
This can't be it. There should've been a warning.
I'm going to stop listening to my father's old songs now and go watch Miss World to lighten my mood.

Growing is a Pain

Something is seriously, very wrong with me.

Puer Aeternus is Latin for eternal boy, used in mythology to designate a child-god who is forever young; psychologically it refers to an older man whose emotional life has remained at an adolescent level, usually coupled with too great a dependence on the mother. The puer typically leads a provisional life, due to the fear of being caught in a situation from which it might not be possible to escape. He covets independence and freedom, chafes at boundaries and limits, and tends to find any restriction intolerable.

The "positive" side of the puer appears as the Divine Child who symbolizes newness, potential for growth, hope for the future. He also foreshadows the hero that he sometimes becomes (e.g. Heracles). The "negative" side is the child-man who refuses to grow up and meet the challenges of life face on, waiting instead for his ship to come in and solve all his problems.
"For the time being one is doing this or that, but whether it is a woman or a job, it is not yet what is really wanted, and there is always the fantasy that sometime in the future the real thing will come about.... The one thing dreaded throughout by such a type of man is to be bound to anything whatsoever."
"Common symptoms of puer psychology are dreams of imprisonment and similar imagery: chains, bars, cages, entrapment, bondage. Life itself...is experienced as a prison."

Okay, is my imagination over active as usual or do I detect a familiarity in the above paragraphs? Am I, the ruler of Estarra, in reality a Peter (or Patricia?) Pan???

Oh no, I don't want to think about it.

But wait! Isn't that a typical tendency? Oh no, oh no!

Should I be psychoanalysed? Am I stuck at some stage that hasn't been resolved yet? Is this why I am the way I am? How come no one's ever realised? How come no one's worried???? I seem to have a problem growing up!!

Let's make a list and see:
Adult tendencies
1. I drive. (okay, okay! But that clearly indicates that I have the ability to be responsible for something that is bigger than myself. Though I still don't know how to check the water coolant and stuff. Sigh. My father's gonna kill me.)

2. I do all my homework and assignments and presentations on time. I submit them first (or I'll panic from paranoia!)

3. I am very bossy when it comes to group projects that I HAVE to do. (Otherwise, I couldn't care less. Hmmm.)

4. I have managed to earn money, much to my surprise-twice as an anchor on Doordarshan. Once as an actor in a educational film. One as an MC's assistant at a friend's event. That's it. That's my job history. So I can survive.

5. I hate partying and get a thrill out of organising and arranging and filing all my belongings. (That is not adult-like. That is just plain WEIRD!)

6. Barack Obama is my idol and 'Dreams from my Father' has been way inspiring. I want to bring positive change to this world somehow. I don't know what I have to offer, I don't know how or what I'm going to do. But I figure the first step should be to sort myself out first!)

7. I think and think and think before spending on myself. (Check me out, digging for reasonably priced files and debating to buy Vogue magazine for a month- I ended up missing the anniversary issue and the next one too. Finally, went crazy and bought the one with Katrina Kaif on it.)

Kid-like tendencies
1. I watch Hannah Montana. I want me and Numbi Jim to be Miley and Lily. (Oh the shame)

2. The maximum I can cook is make Top Ramen. Okay, not even Top Ramen. CUP O NOODLES. (Are you happy??? I am embarrassed!! But I do have a big file of internet downloaded recipes that I plan to make someday...someday...)

3.I fall in love with celebrities and fictional characters. Alright, that's got nothing to do with age (I KNOW that my mum had crushes on Zidane and Dhoni.) But I know something's wrong when most of my friends have decided baby's names and wedding venues (okay, not in that order) while I declare my passionate adoration for Enrique,Hrithik, Darius, Arjun Rampal, Edward Norton, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and characters like Michael Moscovitz and David (Meg Cabot), Kostos Dounas (Ann Brashares- Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) and right now downright scintillating vampire boy Edward Cullen (Stephanie Myer) etc (WAIT A MINUTE. They're ALL taken. Waaaaaaaaah!)

4. My favourite movies include 'The Little Mermaid' , 'Anastasia' and 'The Road to El Dorado' and my dream is to buy myself an 'Aladdin' DVD. (Even though I have enjoyed films such as 'Impromptu', 'Blow' and other legends that I cannot recall right now. But I must confess I still cannot bring myself to watch Akira Kurosowa. Sorry, Bunny. Your cultured cinematographer's taste has not rubbed off on me.)

5. I sneak into the library, head for the kids section, grab a 'Princess Diaries' and run before anyone (particularly a kid) sees me. I head for the librarian's counter to issue it and pretend to scan through a copy of Business Today to avoid catching his eye.

6.I begin to fall asleep standing at the discussion or perusal of gold/diamond/silver/platinum jewellery or sari shopping. (Or could this be a sign of tomboyish tendencies? But that doesn't explain my fascination for Vogue magazine spreads? Then again, I just stare at the clothes and photos and don't do anything about it. I guess it's like colour and gloss therapy for me) I tune off and you can bring me back to consciousness only at the mention of hilarious headlines on 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'. Or just Jay Leno for that matter. Comedy wins over dress-up anytime.

7. I have no clue what I want to be doing for the rest of my life.

Sigh. Sigmund Freud, leave me be. I'll take a while and you can't do anything about it.

Pause for a Sad Love Song

Sometimes you listen to sad songs on purpose, don't you?

This mad girl, Ra introduced me to 'Cannonball' by Damien Rice. It's so exquisitely painful, that aching addiction that you can't resist. You're perfectly peaceful, the weather's great and you have a whole heart that you have sort of succeeded in tying up and securing in its rightful place. Yet, you knowingly stumble into the poetic verse of a goodbye song. And you live a heartbreak moment right then and there. Whether you're denying it, whether you've experienced it, whether you want to experience or not.

"It's not hard to fall when you float like a cannonball"

That's the problem with these sad love songs. You can relate to them somehow or the other. Whether you've been through a million or nil relationships (I belonging to the latter category) you can just feel something.

If you ever get into one of those moods, you know what to do...

'You' - Switchfoot

'Ishtihaar' - Rabbi

'Chhalla' - Rabbi

'Khalouni' - Cheb Mami

'Tzazae' - Cheb Mami

'Apologise' - Timbaland feat. One Republic

'Easy to Please' - Coldplay

'Eleanor' - Low Millions

'Every breath you take' - The Police

'Stigmatized' - The Calling (beeauutiful)

'Mar Jaawaan' - 'Fashion'
'Mein Herz Brennt' - Rammstein

'Najaney kyun' - Strings

'Varaka Nathikarai' - 'Sangamam' ( I don't know why this song makes me sad but it does)

'Ye mera divanapan hai' - 'The Namesake'

'Ek geet hijar da' - Rabbi

'Afterglow' - INXS (of course)

'Simple like the truth' - Darius

'Undiscovered' - Ashlee Simpson

'Thaiyya thaiyya' - 'Dil Se'

'Polly come home' - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss

'With or without you' - U2

'All I want is you' - U2

Or the best way to get out of it would be to listen to some good old chauvinistic, unsentimental 50 Cent, don't cha think?

Guilty Pleasures!

I have come to the conclusion that music forms me. If there can be Ardhnaareeshwar (half man, half woman in divine form), then I'm half music. I am incomplete without it. I cannot get ready and kicking unless there is a song playing from the 'Therapy' list on my iTunes (usually Koothu Tamil) I cannot let go of my pain unless I listen to 'Chhalla' or 'Apologise' or search for some appropriate song. So, I don't care if I need to learn to be independent and if you scorn me because one ear is always connected to a earphone. Music helps me where people can't. It makes sense out of life, whether through the strum of a guitar, a magically apt string of words or the dhinchak of a masala movie song. So, let me present to you my latest addictions, the healthy guilty pleasures.

- Low Millions. I think the only album they released was 'Ex-Girlfriends' and I'm not sure if the only hit they had was 'Eleanor', the ultimately sarcastic yet tragic break up song. But I've fallen in love with singer Adam Cohen's voice, particularly on 'Mockingbird'. I love the words.
"You say you love me but you don't love me, you say you hate me but you don't hate me, you say you'd leave me but you can't leave me, because you love me, what's it gonna be, what is wrong with you, what is wrong with me."
Deliciously addictive.

-'Chhalla' as sung by Rabbi. He's taken the original traditional Gurdas Mann Punjabi folk song and sung it to an acoustic guitar. It feels as if he is singing it at dusk in a dimly lit room over a broken heart.

-'The Good Soldier' by Nine Inch Nails. Okay, I can't help it. I am drawn to anything by Trent Raznor but this song really fit my state of mind for the past week.'
"I am trying to see
I am trying to believe
This is not where I should be
I am trying to believe"

'Wednesday (No Se Apoye)' by Mike Doughty. I love his abstract, meandering lyrics, particularly 'I Hear the Bells'. But 'Wednesday' is beautiful, rainy and lounge-y, to be soaked up during a light, lazy afternoon or an endless drive.

Let the rain fall down...

My wishlist for 'Autumn' 2008:
As the leaves fall (well atleast in other prettier parts of the world) and as the breeze sweeps them away. As the rain clouds gather and as the water washes away the moments of feeling nowhere...I wish...
-to be content within myself and free from fear of the future.

-unlimited subscription to VOGUE magazine!

-to see the good in everyone and not to judge anyone if they have different values from mine.

-a nice new stereo system that doesn't get stuck while attempting to play my new compilation of koothu songs. Boo hoo.

-to be unafraid to be alone and to rejoice in my solitude, without any fear of future regret.

-to be comfortable in my own skin... and also to stick to some kind of exercise routine!!! (this is really a wishlist)

-Having said that, LOADS of nice nice clothes !!

-to be around nature somehow, somewhere, always.

-to not be stressed!

-to stop bothering what people think about me and whether they think at all

-to always be surrounded by music-the masala, the melodious, the meaningful and the mad.

-to stop having crushes that crush me! (VERY IMPORTANT!) But I think this is possible. I'm growing older and a little wiser.

-to disconnect from the insignificant

-to manage my anger! (Will martial arts help?)

-to just LIVE

-to love my family the way they deserve because they have been there for me like noone else has, my tiny little family.

-to stop wanting to belong, to some culture, to some language, to someone, to something. To enjoy being as solid as thin air and as undefinable.

-to write forever! Because that's the only thing I seem to stick to!

Ah, l'amour!

Well, well, I'm in one of my lovey-dovey moods (read: the time when I'm not being a totally brattish boy who couldn't care less about eyebrow threading, is in the throes of an extremely satisfying assignment completion or lusting after pizza and popcorn). Being perennially single in a sea of couples (with and without the relationship counselling I tend to do) has its advantages and disadvantages.
The upside:
- I can go where I like, talk to whom I like, without it being a problem for anyone (er, except headquarters) I love all my guy friends too much to give that up.
- I save on tears.
- I don't have to dress up and fret about looking perfect. Okay, perhaps the fact that I'm single should make me NEED to dress up, but I'm just too lazy to care.
- I have done enough fighting with my best friend for a dozen relationships.
- I can have a million and hundred crushes and nobody has to know. And even if they do, it's all fine!
-Weirdness is something you celebrate alone. I think.
- I can be a boy.
- My parents are extreeeeeemely happy with my célébataire status. And I get to hang out with them most of the time.

The downside:
- You have to drop yourself home and so can't stay out that late (if you're a girl like I'm supposed to be). Ah, the luxury of having someone drive you around and fuss about protecting you. (Besides Mum. Now if she did that, I'd furiously declare my age and how I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself. Not)
- There's always a message waiting to be read on your phone. A call. An email. Some contact when you're in your people-hungry moods!
- Someone chose YOU because of the way you are and does not need you to change for any reason. Someone loves you not because you are born to them. Of course, there's friends for this. But they don't necessarily find you attractive, fun, comfortable, loving and want to be with you all the time. Hmmm.
- You get to fuss over someone and pour out all that love without scaring (when your friends and puppy get squirmy if you do the same. Sometimes)
The rest of the reasons have been eloquently conveyed in the following.

All I Want Is You - U2

You say you want diamonds on a ring of gold
You say you want your story to remain untold
But all the promises we made
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you
You say you'll give me a highway with no one on it
A treasure just to look upon it
All the riches in the night
You say you'll give me eyes in a world of blindness
A river in a time of dryness
A harbour in the tempest
But all the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you
You say you want your love to work out right
To last with me through the night
You say you want diamonds on a ring of gold
Your story to remain untold
Your love not to grow cold
All the promises we break
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you You
All I want is...you
All I want is...you
All I want is...you
( I guess the fact that it is sung in Bono's passionate voice as it soars over The Edge's other-worldly riffs adds to the fact that it is probably the most beautiful song of love and longing that I've ever heard. I can listen to it over and over and over again and still not shake off the goosebumps on my skin.)

Desert Rose - Sting

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand
Sweet desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this
Sweet desert rose
This memory of Eden haunts us all
This desert flower
This rare perfume, is the sweet intoxication of the fall
( The delicate words woven into the intricate melody totally transports me into a desert oasis under a star studded sky. Okay, okay, I'm getting too soppy perhaps. But I just cannot resist Cheb Mami's enchanting vocals syncing with Sting's as these words of yearning for love flow so gracefully. Siiiiigh)

Abhi Nahin Aana - Sona

Abhi Nahin Aana

Mohe Thoda Marne De

Intezar Karne De

Abhi Nahin Aana Sajana

Bhejiyo Sandesha

Aap Nahin Aana

Thode Door Rahke

Mohe Tarsana

Abhi To Mein Chahun,

Sari Sari Raat Jagana

Abhi Nahi Anna Sajana

Ruk Ruk Aana

Dheere Dheere Chalna

Bhoolna Dagaria,

Raste Badalna

Nahi Abhi Mohe,

Garwa Nahi Hey Lagna

Abhi Na Jagao

Bane Raho Sapna....
(Okay, for those of you who don't know Hindi, for those of you who are not familiar with Indian traditions and perceptions of love and courtship, this one may be lost on you in translation. The song, beautifully sung by Sona, is about a woman telling her lover to delay his arrival. She wishes to nearly die in anticipation for him, to experience the torture of being separated from him. This song cannot be understood if you're not a romantic)

Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol

We'll do it all

Everything

On our own.

We don't need

Anything

Or anyone.

If I lay here,

If I just lay here ,

Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

I don't quite know

How to say

How I feel.

Those three words

Are said too much

They're not enough

If I lay here,

If I just lay here,

Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told

Before we get too old

Show me a garden that's bursting into life.

Let's waste time

Chasing cars

Around our heads.

I need your grace

To remind me

To find my own...

All that I am

All that I ever was

Is here in your perfect eyes,

they're all I can see.

I don't know where

Confused about how as well

Just know that these things will never change for us at all.

If I lay here,

If I just lay here,

Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

( Need I say more?)

Why girl best friends are so important

(This one's dedicated to all those girlfriends who are true, trustworthy and ever so dependable.)

1. They tell you when you need to lose weight without being jealous and threaten to slap you if you eat that extra bujji.

2. They're ever so dispensable with affection unlike boy best friends who are sooo reticent and flee at the sign of any senti-ness.

3. You can jump from talking about gossip to movies to the economy to advertising to make up to relationships to academics without missing a beat.

4. It's always handy to have a second mom or two to fix your hair and to take care of you in suchlike emergencies.

5. Guy friends can threaten to beat up people who hurt you; girl friends go the extra mile to get revenge-with caustic words.

6. You can get hugs . Poor boys can't hug each other without being called gay. That's dumb, actually.

7. They never run away without explanation. They either don't run away or they explain.

8. You can play with their hair, substitute Barbies that they are.

9. They get so angry for you at the appropriate times and do all the verbal abuse for you

10.They're the closest thing to sisters, especially if you don't have any!

I love you all!

Movies I want to see for some reason or the other

1. Jaane Tu..Jaane Na
It seems very teeny bopper-ish but it looks fresh and hopefully will feature real dialogues and characters of Indian youth.
2. Rock On
I may have left my rock band idolisation days long behind (okay, in the eleventh standard) given that rock music is mostly very depressing (but I love U2 and most of the alt stuff). But this flick looks interesting and different. Farhan Akhtar singing! And no, I don't need a reason to want to see Arjun Rampal.
3. The Kite Runner
The book moved me to pieces. I doubt the movie will. But I'm a sucker for Afghan culture.
4. Coco Before Chanel
Am not sure what the movie is actually titled but it stars Audrey Tatou as Coco Chanel. My Vogue-addicted eyes are craving to see this and my generally curious soul loves bio-pics.
5. Kismat Konnection
It's Shahid post 'Jab We Met'! And it looks like one of those romances where there's a lot of conversation. I like, I like. I hope not to be disappointed.

To my bestest :)

"I'm never gonna speak to him again!"

"That's it. I don't see any point in this friendship anymore..."

"I HATE HER!!!!!"

You're not human if you haven't uttered or haven't had atleast one of these sentences been uttered to you.
Well, I'm human. And I'm young enough to eat my words. Several times. And let's not talk about the indigestion.

But who remembers a few morsels of humble pie while swallowing a tablespoonful of one's pride when it means salvaging a friendship?

When your eyes search across the room to exchange a look after a teacher has said something incredibly disparaging but howlariously side-splitting at the same time.

When you walk alone to the canteen and have no one to grab your cup o'noodles and dig in like nobody's business.

When no matter how much you love all your other friends, there's no one quite like that one person to share your idiosyncracies, your crushes, your obscure jokes and your veg roll.

When you want to just smile at someone for no reason and get that old goofy smile back in return that makes you feel all sunny again.

When you want someone who can obsess with you about something utterly trivial to the rest of the world but earth-shatteringly significant to you.

When you're wake up at 2 in the morning and you desperately need someone to share your recently-formulated philosophies over text messages.

When you're starving and cranky as hell and need someone to just pop a biscuit in your mouth ..even if you steal his/her food all the time and to soothe you with promises of dinner at an A/C restaurant nearby even if you're flat broke.

When you can't think of anyone who hangs out with your family so much that you can't imagine him/her not belonging right here.

When you need someone to tell you that yes, you will find love, SOON and even if you don't, let's go drown our sorrows in chocolate cake.

When you are extremely lazy and need someone to pick clothes for you, someone who knows which are your 'fat-weather' clothes!!!

When you need someone to accept graciously all your inane terms of endearment right from 'tiramisu' to 'bonda raj'.

When you are perpetually single but need to dedicate romantic songs to someone.

When you know, you know that NO ONE else could have possibly been there for you, like he/she was-not at that moment, not at that place and not for that long.

When you can't find anyone who will get along so well with all of your people right from parents to school friends to college friends to house help.

When there is NOT a soul who will remember all the most ridiculous of phrases that made you crack up, whether a year or a week ago, and will repeat them at the most appropriate AND inappropriate moments!

When you need someone to be there with through all your most insecure stage moments, the most awkward encounters and the most boring chores , without you even asking him/her to.

When the code names and code words protect you from the rest of the world even though they remind you of 6th standard all over again.

When you want to vent all your anger about someone to someone who won't spill and more importantly, doesn't think you're an evil/negative/cynical aura-drainer.

When you sigh about wanting to fall in love and experience that magical abyss and need someone to not say "Oh shut up! It's not as great as it looks like! Look at Brad and Jennifer! Kareena-Shahid!".

When you can't remember anyone who remembers all the things that you said in your most affectionate moments when all you can remember is all the mean things that you never meant.

When you can't imagine anyone being your boyfriend/girlfriend/brother/sister/best friend/foe/pet/plaything/Agony aunt/psychiatrist/spiritual comrade/911 helpline/drug/accomplice at the same time.

Anyone, that is, except that person.

It's not Valentine's Day..or Friendship Day..But here's to you, the best friend. Here's to you.

Forever. :)

Lyrics...without the music.

Well, here's something I spend nearly all my time unconsciously collecting-those words or lines that sum up exactly what you're feeling deep or not-so deep-within. The reason why some songs just hit you or make you cry or make you realise that someone way across the globe feels the same way you do-irrespective of the language, the genre. Human emotion seems to be global-atleast that's what I've found. Here is a collection of some of the words that have touched me through songs in Arabic, Spanish, Hindi and of course English. These are words that I have scrawled in the back pages of my journal, in the margins of class notes, in cards to friends, on chart paper stuck up on my wall, as messenger nicknames, as text messages and even to describe myself or state of mind on social networking websites. These are the songs I sing to myself before moments I dread, during days I need strength to get through or simply because they define a state I want to live in forever. And sometimes simply because they amuse me to no end because of their pure and simple honesty... Hope you share my opinion, and if you don't, just go listen to techno!

(In no particular order)

1)“Lli fat mat, lli fat mat! Defnu-h et-twala! Lli fat mat!Xetwa mwura xetwa, ishara mwura ishara, gerreb men lli baid u xalli el-madi f-el-madi!Ma tderr h’add! Ma teh’sed h’add! smaa el-maaqul, u kun karim! Derrej l-uraq, qsem el-h’anana! Lli dyal-ek dyal-u, nsa el-h’riq! Ma tkun ghir nefs-ek! El h'ayat terjaa u twulli ki l-melh'un, ki l-mel'hun!"
(What is past is dead and gone, what is past is dead and gone, the last have been buried, what is past is dead and gone.Step after step, gesture after gesture, get closer to the far distance and leave the past to the past!Don’t hurt anyone, don’t be jealous of anyone! Listen to the wise and be modest. Turn the page, share tenderness! What is yours is his! Forget the pain, be yourself, and from life, make a poem, make a poem….)
- 'Lli Fat mat'('What's past is past'), Rachid Taha

2)"Let's see colours that have never been seen
Let's go to places no one else has been
You're in my mind, all of the time
I know that's not enough
But if the sky can crack
There must be some way back
To love and only love"-
'Electrical Storm', U2

3) "Ana gelb-i safi!
Nebghi el- h'obb zahwani!
Ana gelb-i safi!
Safi safi zahwani!"
(As for me, my heart is pure. I like joyous love, As for me my heart is pure, Joyous!
-'Safi'('Pure'), Rachid Taha

4)"But I'm a million different people from one day to the next..."
-'Bittersweet Symphony', The Verve

5)"Oh can't you see what love has done to every broken heart
Oh can't you see what love has done for every heart that cries
Love left a window in the skies

A treasure just to look upon it

But all the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you "

Why did we become unknown to each other?)

Let it go
Surrender

If I could
throw this
Lifeless lifeline to the wind
Leave this heart of clay
See you walk, walk away
Into the night
And through the rain
Into the half-light
And through the flame

If I could through myself
Set your spirit free
I'd lead your heart away
See you break, break away
Into the light
And to the day

To let it go
And so to fade away
To let it go
And so fade away

I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
Wide awake
I'm not sleeping
Oh, no, no, no

If you should ask then maybe they'd
Tell you what I would say
True colors fly in blue and black
Blue silken sky and burning flag
Colors crash, collide in blood shot eyes

If I could, you know I would
If I could, I would Let it go...
This desperation
Dislocation
Separation
Condemnation
Revelation
In temptation
Isolation
Desolation

Let it go
And so fade away
To let it go
And so fade away
To let it go
And so to fade away
I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
Wide awake
I'm not sleeping
Oh, no, no, no
-'Bad', U2

27)"I'm going back to the start"
-'The Scientist', Coldplay

The Soul Sessions

I don't mean to sound like an email forward or an sms (probably not an sms because I'm pretty long-winded out here in Estarra) on harbouring goodwill for your neighbour, loving life and celebrating every moment and allllllllll those things that come in succulent points as reminders to what you should realise about this short existence. {Even if you do recognise the said things but are not in the mood to care anyway! Especially since those words of wisdom are so hard to follow up on when your neighbour is conniving little twerp or you just crashed your car into someone else's and you have an exam in ten minutes ;), personal note here}
Well, I slightly strayed from the point. What I intended to say is, that I don't mean to sound preachy but everything in life is meant for a reason, a lesson. And I learnt quite a few lessons over the past few days....

Acting as an amateur journalist for the past three days on account of a conference that was conducted in my college, I got to meet a lot of educators and listen to a lot of discussions on the current education system. Informative insights were delivered. From the numerous notes I scribbled, I definitely benefited intellectually and came away with new perspectives on education and learning (not to mention a simultaneous quasi-workshop on journalism-what with the reporting, interviewing and camera work we had to do!) But besides that, I learnt some things which struck a chord in my soul and as 'internet preachy forward' as they sound, just give them an unbiased read... :)

*Each one of us has something to say-old or new, borrowed or original, crystal clear or abstract. But each of us has something to say...and the irrepressible need to say it.

*You are all that belongs to you. So it's natural for you to have a rather keen interest in yourself. But there's so much to learn from the other six billion people that constitute this planet! Seriously!

*Idealistic or otherwise, anybody's vision or dream for a perfect society is meant to be respected and not ridiculed.

*Solutions CAN be found.

*Everybody feels like a star when their opinion is sought. It gives the most often forgotten joy-the joy of feeling important, of feeling needed.

*Talk to everyone! Smile at everyone!

*Work is worship.

*No matter how much you say that your own personal satisfaction is what counts, there is nothing like the appreciation from an external source, especially coming from someone whom you respect and look up to the most. There is nothing to replace that feeling.

*Team work is perhaps much harder than individual effort but immensely rewarding. There is nothing like celebrating as a group, as a makeshift family, tired but tired together.

*Everything turns out alright in the end. :) It really does.

Let me be me!!!!

Let me be me!!!!

To be lazy and and lie around the house in shorts and ridiculously oversized t shirts, watching tv and reading books about following dreams when I either have too many or none...
To be hyperactive and super productive, regarding the smallest of duties, acting like a CEO and feeling that happily tired feeling after a job well done...

To not want to go to a coffee place or a disco not because I don't love you, my friends, or because I hate coffee or dancing but because I just don't want to do the above...
To listen to any kind of music I want in any language which talks about everything under the sun and does not just weep over tainted love...

To be a 'nerd', an 'over-enthu', a 'weirdo', a 'specimen', because atleast I don't get bored...
To be as split personality as I am, even if sometimes I'm on silent mode...

To respect anyone and everyone as a human being first and not to scorn them or judge them, because we all have something to offer...
To be everything that I should be as a powerful, independent individual and not to be restricted because I am a daughter...

To speak up and shut up whenever I feel like, because there is so much to be understood from my silence...
To accept me for hesitation and impulsiveness, for doubt and optimism, for intensity and patience...

To be afraid and to find strength in its recognition...
To say all that I want to say and find ultimate liberation..

To find a miracle in a blue sky, in a lyric of a song, in my own smile so broad...
And to recognise in each miracle, the outstretched hand of God...

Things that make my day

Well here's something that intrigued me and since I write in this space so sporadically (no offense, but my journal's way closer than my computer and hence my thoughts tend to pour into that vessel). My friend suggested I talk about the things that amuse me in a normal day for a casual speech assignment. I'd rather write about it and take it one step further to include all the random things that make me happy/amused/blessed in any ordinary day...

Waking up and realising there's a looooot more time for coll (the fact that I'm in evening college kinda helps :P)...
Listening to my latest favourite song first thing in the morning, even before I get out of bed and getting high out of my mind....
Whenever there's something unusual about the day-the sky is extraordinarily blue, the clouds sparkingly white, the breeze so refreshing..these things just make me so thrilled for some reason...
Seeing atleast 5 new messages in my phone...
Lounging and reading the paper in my night clothes...
Singing along to Rachid Taha songs in Arabic even if I have no clue what the words are but no one knows or cares anyway...:)
Having a good hair day..:D
Friends asking me for advice and me giving good advice...:)
Attending all 5 hrs of college and suppressing all urges to bunk...
Having fulfilling classes...
Expressing my views about those things I've never thought about before...
Laughing my head off to the mad antics of my friends in class (without hurting the teacher of course)...
The veg rolls in the college canteen...mmm...
The sunshine that streams in through the trees during the break and warms me up cause these days it's still chilly..
Free hours when I don't know where the time flies off to because I'm having so much fun with my friends...
Making someone laugh....
Driving my car safely home through an insane rush hour...
Coming home ravenous and eating a yummmy dinner courtesy Mum first thing...
Coming online and having a long soul searching, cathartic, satisfactory chat...:)
Opening a book and finding a sentence or paragraph that hits me so hard because it has expressed my thoughts exactly...
Writing a piece of poetry or just writing anything at all...
Having someone there who is just so curious to know about my day...
Crossing off all the items on my to do list...
Hugging my friends/parents...
Having a hot water bottle for my back...:D sooo relaaaxiiing
Free messaging hours at night...:)
Sleeping off while reading Paulo Coelho/Kahlil Gibran/Rumi and listening to Gregorian/Benedictine chants...
Dreaming about something I want to come true...
Waking up to start all over again... cause today might be the day, and even if it isn't, it sure feels like it...:D

My favourite music videos

April 24
My all time favourite videos of all time
(in no particular order)

1. Days Go By- Dirty Vigas.
Haunting. Wry. Real.

2. Desert Rose-Sting feat. Cheb Mami
Perhaps it's the pure beauty of the song. But I've always loved the idea of music videos depicting long, yearning journeys.

3.Te dejo Madrid-Shakira
It has some rather complicated allusions and illusions in its imagery. But she looks soooo cute! Plus her wardrobe is so enviable. That's enough for me.

4. Escape-Enrique Iglesias
He is so haaawwwt! Delete the Anna K bits.

5. Afterglow-INXS
Achingly beautiful. Enough said. Sigh. JD.

6. Hey Anta-Rachid Taha
Well I suppose I had to put in a RT video even though I have seen a grand total of two of his videos. But I loved what I saw of this one. It portrayed the quest, the longing for a land unknown which is what I relate to when I hear this song.

7. Right Here Right Now-Fat Boy Slim
Well I happen to have a predeliction for the quirky music of videos of Fat Boy Slim, but this one stands out cause I remember watching it through and through each and every single time I caught it on tv as a little kid. Which probably explains certain things about my personality..hmmm..

8.Objection(tango)-Shakira
This one's funny AND easy on the eye!

9.C'est La Nuit-Khaled
Another long car journey. It reminds me of a new beginning.

10.Bittersweet Symphony-The Verve
Ah another of my childhood memories...! Richard Ashcroft's long, aimless walk and attitude, the disgruntled bystanders, the whole look og the vid-I can watch it again and again and it leaves me with an arrogant swagger in my mind each time. Lol.
